We Go Beyond: Officially B Corp Certified!

WHAT IS B CORP?

B Corps are certified companies that leverage the power of business to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy. The certification signifies that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.

There are over 7,800 B Corps in 93 countries and over 2000 B Corps in North America.

And today, we're proud to announce that we are one of them.

COMMITTED TO LEADING THE CHANGE WE SEEK

By certifying, B Corps step into a framework for continuous improvement. Every 3 years, B Corp companies must undertake the assessment and verification process again, demonstrating they are still meeting B Lab's standards - which themselves are always improving, with continual input from expert stakeholders. Companies are assessed in five main categories: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

We are excited to be a part of a global community of businesses working collectively for economic systems change, and that in order to stay committed to this work, we must all meet rising standards for social and environmental performance. While B Corp Certification does not mean that a company is perfect, nor that it has achieved its highest impact, we are dedicated to using business as a force for good. We will aim to integrate B-Lab recommendations into every facet of our operations as we advance the growth of GreenGear these next 3 years, aiming to not only to re-certify, but also increase our score!

DRIVING CHANGE AS A B CORP

B Corp certified companies are part of the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system.

That’s why we're dedicated to advancing sustainability by creating products that don’t put a burden on the end-consumer. As a minority-female owned startup, our mission extends beyond just sustainability; it's about ensuring that every product, every supply chain component, every partnership contributes to a more positive and equitable future.

"Typically, as a startup, doing the BIA seems nearly impossible and time-consuming. However, running through it has helped me figure out what impact areas to prioritize for the future, how we can better message the actions we are taking to customers and how to track our impact metrics. I also really appreciate getting an early exposure to positive worker practices as this will help GreenGear provide an equitable and diverse workplace as we scale. "

BEYOND CERTIFICATION

In honor of celebrating this year’s theme of Going Beyond, we wanted to share a few ways GreenGear uses business as a force for good.

Black Jaguar Foundation:

We work with the Black Jaguar Foundation to help reforest the corridor between the Amazon and Cerrado in Brazil. See how our contribution to this project progresses.

1% for the Planet:

We donate at least 1% of all revenue. Only 3% of all philanthropic giving goes to the environment. In an effort to protect the environment, we have partnered with 1% for the Planet to donate a portion of all proceeds to support environmental nonprofits.

COVID-19 Donation Program:

From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we wanted to find ways we can help. After working with a doctor at Stony Brook hospital, it was discovered that our ponchos have the unique ability of protecting doctors while intubating patients. Furthermore, doctors across NYC were using ponchos to extend the useful life of their PPE. We quickly took action to donate our available inventory and to fundraise to facilitate further donations.

Supply Chain Improvements

We have also made great strides in our supply chain. We’ve found a partner in the U.S. to add a biodegradable additive to our material. Therefore, our products will remain being made from renewable resources, reusable, and recyclable, but now also biodegradable for bioconsumption - meaning they can degrade in landfills without releasing methane gas and degrade faster in soil and oceans, all without producing microplastics. Furthermore, we began fulfilling orders from the U.S.

These are just a few... Be on the lookout for our 2024 annual report to see ALL the ways we go beyond.

We are both honored and immensely proud to have earned the B Corp certification. This recognition not only validates our unwavering dedication to environmental and social responsibility but also signifies a commitment to the positive impact we aim to foster.
